me recordaste esto que leí hace un tiempo en Time Out, una lista de "things you gotta do before you can call yourself a New Yorker".
las mejores eran:
- accept you bicycle as an integral part of your furniture
- have personal water-bug and rat horror stories at the ready
- feel a sense of loss if you don't see your corner's regular homeless person for a few weeks
- walk your parents through the Gay Pride Parade without mentioning that anything out of the ordinary is happening
- stay home on Friday and Saturday nights (because they're for amateurs)
- navigate the west village without a map
- incorporate a lexicon of Yiddish terms in your vocabulary (si no lo traías con vos, claro)
- be able to cite a favorite Chinese restaurant on Mott Street
- sit next to a celebrity at a bar or restaurant and not care
- try to drag something way too big home on the bus from Ikea
y agregaban, además, que un real New Yorker sabe: cómo pronunciar "Houston", que se dice Sixth Avenue (y no Avenue of the Americas), que todavía se hace referencia al Pan Am Building (nunca Met Life Building) y que la estatua de la libertad NO está en Ellis Island.
